The "Land for Peace" Deal
The Bible records that God has made certain unconditional covenants with the nation of Israel. They are unconditional in that God is the One who will fulfill them. They are not dependent on man and thus cannot be broken. God made the unconditional Abrahamic Covenant with Abraham, the father of the Jews. Within that covenant was the promise of the land of Israel.
Now the Lord said to Abram, Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father's house,To the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed (Genesis 12:1-3).
The unconditional promise of the land of Israel is confirmed again by the Land Covenant in Deu. 30:1-10. This is often erroneously called the "Palestinian Covenant" by theologians, however, the Bible does not recognize Israel's ancient land by the Roman name of "Palestine." The land is to be an everlasting possession and though removed, first because of idolatrous rebellion and the second because of the rejection of their Messiah, they will again return to it (in 1948 Israel became a state), for the covenants of God cannot be broken, they are irrevocable (see Romans 11:29). There can be no legal claim to the land of Israel by any other people.
Neither are they all children because they are Abraham's descendants, but: through Isaac your descendants will be named (Romans 9:7).
The Rise and Fall of Nations
The Bible also teaches that God will judge nations for their treatment of Israel. In Genesis we read of God's blessing and curse on all nations.
And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed (Genesis 12:3).
History bears witness to this great truth, that those peoples and nations who have been against God's earthly people, Israel, have been severely dealt with by God. It has been said that you can trace the rise and fall of nations by how they have treated the Jews. With this much at stake it becomes exceeding important on how the nations treat Israel. Today America may find itself the object of God's wrath by advocating the carving up of the land of Israel to establish a Palestinian state, hostile to Israel and bent on its destruction.
The Re-Birth of Israel
Truely we are living in prophetic times with the re-birth of the nation of Israel in 1948. No small amount of Scripture predicted this amazing prophetic event. The nations are wrong if they think that they can dismantle the nation of Israel without repercussions. It is God who has brought back Israel in these last days to their promised homeland, to fulfill His purpose.
Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, And declare in the coastlands afar off, And say, "He who scattered Israel will gather him, And keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock" (Jeremiah 31:10).
America The Peace Broker
Starting with Jimmy Carter, presidents have tried to broker peace between Israel and her Arab neighbors, by requiring Israel to give up part of the land God gave them in exchange for peace. President George W. Bush has become the first American President to advocate the creation of a Palestinian state in the heartland of Israel, Judea and Samaria. This he has done with constant forceful pressure.
What motivates the President to sign on to a plan to divide the land of Israel and Jerusalem? He is supposed to be a Born-again Christian and should understand Biblical prophecy. Bush has been called "a born-again Methodist." He has been described as being an Evangelical Christian that believes in "Replacement Theology." In that view the Church is the "new Israel," and Christians have replaced the Jewish people in God's program. Replacement Theology teaches that Israel, through disobedience and unbelief, has forfeited any future in God's promises and that the Church inherits the promises in a spiritual form. However, it teaches the Church does not inherit the judgments, that they say belongs to Israel. This teaching has produced much Christian anti-Semitism. With this mindset Bush can not fully see the importance of taking Scripture literally in regard to God's prophetic future for the nation of Israel.
Under intense pressure from the United States Israel unilaterally has given up Gaza as a peace offering to the Palestinians, with Samaria and Judea (the West Bank), to be followed by Jerusalem. The Palestinians have responded with the slogan "Gaza today, Jerusalem tomorrow." Palestinian leaders, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad are claiming victory and demanding Jerusalem. This isn't surprising when we consider that Psalms 83:2-8 predicts the forming of a confederacy against Israel in the end times. It lists the Arab nations that make a covenant to utterly destroy Israel as a nation to be remembered no more.
For, behold, Your enemies make an uproar; And those who hate You have exalted themselves. They make shrewd plans against Your people, And conspire together against Your treasured ones. They have said, Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation, That the name of Israel be remembered no more. For they have conspired together with one mind; Against You do they make a covenant: The tents of Edom [Arab descendants of Esau] and the Ishmaelites [one of the fathers of all Arabs]; Moab [Jordan], and the Hagrites [Egypt]; Gebal [Lebanon], and Ammon [Jordan], and Amalek [Sinai Peninsula]; Philistia [Gaza Strip] with the inhabitants of Tyre [Lebanon]; Assyria [Syria] also has joined with them; They have become a help to the children of Lot (Psalms 83:2-8).
Because you have had everlasting enmity and have delivered the sons of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, at the time of the punishment of the end, therefore, as I live, declares the Lord God, I will give you over to bloodshed, and bloodshed will pursue you; since you have not hated bloodshed, therefore bloodshed will pursue you (Ezekiel 35:5-6).
America stands in direct opposition to God's program for the nation of Israel in its administration of today's so-called "land for peace" deal - a deal that is impossible to succeed. Scripture teaches that God will certainly judge the nations for dividing His land.
I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat, then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of my people and my inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and they have divided up my land (Joel 3:2).
The Arab nations seek to destroy Israel and make a covenant in the end times to do just that. The United States is in a dangerous position, it may be facing God’s judgment for its role in forcing Israel to give up land for a false peace. Today America is under attack by the same enemy of Israel - radical Islam. The pressure for Israel to give up land has become intense during the Bush Administration and radical Islam has propagated a ferocious war of terror on America. Our fuel prices have more than doubled with no end in sight. The nuclear threat against America by terrorists, perhaps with suitcase nukes, has increased. Our nation is experiencing severe natural disasters along with economic uncertainties as never before.
Mr. President, the role of America in the eviction of Jews from parts of the land of Israel ("His land") puts America at odds with God and His purpose for that land and His covenant people, Israel.
